What Fills Your Mind?

The Nurturing Father who delights in His Child

The Lord your God is with you…he will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing. —ZEPHANIAH 3:17

  1. You have a Heavenly Father who loves you more than any other human being on this planet ever has or ever will.
  2. Nothing you can do today will make God love you anymore, and nothing you can do today will make God love you any less.
  3. God is not disillusioned with you because he had no illusions about you to begin with.
  4. Because shame, guilt and condemnation have no role in helping you live in God’s life, he has removed them in Christ and does not manage them for your growth.
  5. You have the freedom to live ‘loved ‘, which comes from a heart-felt appreciation of all that Christ has set you free to walk in.
  6. These realities, are the inheritance and rights of the New Creation

How do you ‘get’ these things, so that you can live in their reality each day without having to think about them?

Father God invites you to sit with Him daily and to experience who He is, that you might know who you are in His eyes. He calls you to spend time in His presence that He might shape your soul as He teaches you how to recognize and follow his voice.

Our mind will be filled with something, it is our choice about what that ‘something’ is.  What we fill our minds with will shape:

  1. Your mood,
  2. feelings and
  3. attitude
  4. It will increase your capacity to know God and
  5. In knowing God shape your belief about yourself, God and others, or
  6. You can fill your minds with the darkness of the world, the identity (belief about yourself) shaped by the world and the hurtful labels, you have wrapped yourself with all its insecurity shame and tattered grave clothes of a life no longer yours.

First, ask God to teach you these things. He’s the one that will show you the reality of these truths in the circumstances of your life. Be specific when you ask, because it helps focus your heart on what God is already doing in you.

Second, salt your mind with the Scriptures. Here are some passages you might want to meditate on. Don’t just read them once or twice. Maybe read them over and over again for a few weeks until the reality becomes clear in your heart.

  • Romans 5-8
  • Galatians 1-6
  •  John 13-17
  • Ephesians 3:17-20

Third, watch for the fingerprints of God in your life each day. Notice things going on around you. Notice what is being said to you or things you’re reading.

  • Everything about your life is in “The Father’s hands”.
    • Trust is not a choice it is the fruit of your growing confidence in Father’s love for you.
    • Jesus, as the Author and Finisher of our faith, is the one who grows our trust in the real circumstances of life.

We need to know the story of Scripture well enough to know how God’s heart.

He wants to free us from the preoccupation of getting from God, so that we can simply live in the reality of what God gives, rather than in the shadows of an old life which is no longer your story.

I wholeheartedly believe that each of us, as beloved children of God, have no higher call than the call to ‘know Him’, and through that relationship, be ‘conformed to the image of the Son’. Romans 8:29 With over thirty-five years experience in ministry my passion to encourage other believers to deepen their intimacy with Father God has never waned. This passion is underpinned by my experience not only as a Christian Counsellor, but as a Pastor and even more importantly by my own personal journey as I encountered 'Abba Father' for myself. Father God has led me on a wonderful journey of getting to know Him and in knowing Him discover myself. On this journey of self-discovery and healing, He has been revealing and teaching me to lean in on His love and discover His amazing grace. He has empowered me to face what hinders our relationship and coming to know the Heart of my God is the heart of the 'perfect' Father.
